Turtle TOP Odyssey Recall 15V526: Backup camera may show mirrored image, raising crash risk

NHTSA campaign 15V526, reported August 18, 2015, 14 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2014 and 2015 transit buses with a back-up camera system may display the camera image in reverse. An object or person on the left side of the vehicle may appear on the right side of the screen, or the reverse. This can cause the driver to misjudge where something is while backing up, increasing the risk of a crash.

The recall covers affected Odyssey, Odyssey XLT, and Van Terra transit buses within specific manufacturing date ranges. Owners are being notified through Turtle Top and ASA Electronics. If you own one of these vehicles, contact Turtle Top customer service at 1-574-831-4340 or ASA Electronics at 1-877-384-4400, and check your VIN for open recalls.

The remedy is free: an authorized dealer will replace the camera unit at no cost to you.

BACK OVER PREVENTION: CAMERA SYSTEM
Problem
Turtle Top is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 Odyssey transit buses manufactured March 12, 2014, to June 30, 2015, 2014 Odyssey XLT transit buses manufactured January 15, 2015, to April 22, 2015, and 2014 Van Terra transit buses manufactured May 6, 2014, to June 30, 2015. The affected vehicles are equipped with a back up camera system which may display images from the camera in reverse.
Risk
If an object or person are on the left side of the screen but are actually on the right side of the vehicle, or vice versa, there is an increased risk of a crash.
Remedy
Turtle Top will work with ASA Electronics to notify owners, and dealers will replace the camera unit, free of charge. The recall began on September 18, 2015. Owners may contact Turtle Top customer service at 1-574-831-4340 or ASA Electronics at 1-877-384-4400. Turtle Top's number for this recall is 15E-050.
