Volvo VAH Recall 15V523: Steering Link Can Corrode and Separate, Causing Loss of Steering

NHTSA campaign 15V523, reported August 17, 2015, 1,319 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

The draglink ball socket boot on certain trucks may be damaged because of the angle of the ball stud. A damaged boot can let contaminants in, which can corrode the ball socket. Over time, this corrosion accelerates wear of the ball, and the ball joint may separate from the socket.

If the joint separates, the driver can lose steering control, which increases the risk of a crash. Owners of affected trucks should take this recall seriously and have the vehicle checked as soon as possible.

The repair is free. Dealers will replace the drag link with one that has improved geometry. Volvo will notify owners directly, or you can contact Volvo customer service at 1-800-528-6586 and reference recall RVXX1503. You can also check your VIN for open recalls.
