Grand Design Reflection Recall 15V518: Trailer Axles May Be Underrated, Risking Overload Failure and Crash

NHTSA campaign 15V518, reported August 14, 2015, 1,721 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Some of these fifth-wheel trailers may have been built with rear axles rated to 5,200 lbs. instead of the 6,000 lbs. the design calls for, and the certification label may list the higher rating. Owners could unknowingly load the trailer beyond what the axle can safely carry.

If a trailer is overloaded, the axle or tires can fail, which raises the risk of a crash. Owners should not assume the label is accurate and should stay within the rated capacity of the actual axle.

The repair is free. An authorized dealer will inspect the trailer and replace any axle rated only to 5,200 lbs. with one rated to 6,000 lbs. Contact Grand Design customer service at 1-574-825-8000 ext. 2015, referencing recall 910004, and check your VIN for any open recalls.
