RAM 1500 Recall 15V517: Battery Cable Can Short and Cause Stalling or Fire

NHTSA campaign 15V517, reported August 14, 2015, 1,655 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2014-2015 Ram 1500 diesel 4x2 trucks built between August 8, 2013, and July 2, 2015, may have a battery harness that rubs against the frame bracket for the right engine mount. Over time this can wear through the harness and cause an electrical short.

If the harness shorts, the vehicle may stall, and there is an increased risk of a fire. Stalling while driving can be hazardous, and a fire risk is serious enough to act on promptly.

The repair is free at an authorized Ram dealer. Dealers will inspect the battery harness to confirm it is correctly routed and secured, and will replace any harness that shows evidence of wear. Chrysler will also notify owners directly. You can check whether your VIN has open recalls and contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403 (recall number R43).
