- Component
- SUSPENSION:REAR:AXLE:NON-POWERED AXLE ASSEMBLY
- Problem
- Strick Trailers, LLC (Strick) is recalling certain model year 2013 Dry Freight Van Trailers, model number S4280E99NFWOP, manufactured October 1, 2012, to July 15, 2013. As built, the trailers have tires that are more than 12 inches forward of the rear of the trailer. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 224, "Rear Impact Protection."
- Risk
- Failing to meet the rear impact protection requirements increases the risk of injury to occupants of a vehicle that collides with the rear of the trailer.
- Remedy
- Strick will notify owners and will replace the fixed torque arm with an adjustable torque arm allowing for the rearward adjustment of the axle, free of charge. The recall began on September 29, 2015. Owners may contact Strick customer service at 1-704-436-2590.
- Notes
- Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
What this recall means for you
Certain 2013 Strick dry freight van trailers were built with the rear axle tires more than 12 inches forward of the trailer's rear end. This means the trailers do not meet federal rear impact protection requirements (FMVSS No. 224), so they offer less protection to occupants of a vehicle that crashes into the back of the trailer.
If the trailer is involved in a rear collision, the increased risk of injury to people in the striking vehicle is the concern. Strick Trailers, LLC will notify owners and replace the fixed torque arm with an adjustable torque arm that allows the axle to be moved rearward, at no cost. Owners can contact Strick customer service at 1-704-436-2590. The recall began on September 29, 2015.
