- Problem
- Forest River, Inc. (Forest River) is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 Vengeance vehicles manufactured December 20, 2013, to November 3, 2014. The gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) is less than the vehicle's GVWR represented on its certification label. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of 49 CFR Part 567, "Certification."
- Risk
- A customer may be confused as to actual GVWR of the vehicle, as well as the vehicle's load carrying capacity. Misinformation as to load carrying capacity can lead to vehicle overloading that can cause a tire failure and crash.
- Remedy
- Forest River will notify owners, and dealers will install a new corrected certification label, free of charge. The recall began on August 31, 2015. Owners may contact Forest River customer service at 1-219-533-5934. Forest River's number for this recall is 17B-08032015-0069.
- Notes
- Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
What this recall means for you
Certain 2014-2015 Vengeance vehicles built between December 20, 2013 and November 3, 2014 have a certification label that lists a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) higher than the vehicle's actual GVWR. Owners may be misled about how much weight the vehicle can safely carry.
If the vehicle is loaded beyond its true capacity, it can cause a tire failure and a crash. The label error is the problem, so owners should not rely on the listed weight rating and should stay within the lower actual limit.
Forest River will notify owners, and authorized dealers will install a new, corrected certification label at no cost. Owners can contact Forest River customer service at 1-219-533-5934 for more information, and can check their VIN for open recalls.
