What this recall means for you
Some 2011-2014 Dodge Charger vehicles built between May 2010 and June 2014 have side impact sensors that may be overly sensitive. As a result, the side curtain airbags and seat airbags can deploy without a crash, and the seat belt pretensioners can activate unexpectedly.
Unexpected airbag deployment raises the risk of a crash or injury, since the vehicle's restraint system is firing when it should not. Owners should be aware that the problem involves the side and seat restraint components rather than the front airbags.
The remedy is free: an authorized Dodge dealer will update the Occupant Restraint Control module calibration at no cost. Owners can contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403 (recall number R35), and can check their vehicle identification number (VIN) for open recalls.
