Chevrolet Impala Recall 15V465: Passenger air bag may deploy with child seat installed

NHTSA campaign 15V465, reported July 24, 2015, 5,493 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2014-2015 Chevrolet Impala vehicles built between April 2013 and June 2015 have front vented-heated passenger seats. The Automatic Occupant Sensing system may fail to suppress the front passenger air bag when a child seat is installed in the front passenger seat. These vehicles do not meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 208 for occupant crash protection.

If the front passenger air bag deploys while a child seat is in the front passenger seat, the risk of injury to the child increases. Owners should not ignore this recall, especially if a child rides in the front passenger seat.

General Motors will notify owners. Dealers will correct the problem free of charge by preconditioning the empty seat and resetting the control module to a seat zero-value. Owners can contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 and reference GM recall number 15400. You can also check your vehicle identification number for open recalls.
