Trailstar Tahoe Recall 15V455: Trailer Tires May Fail Under Load, Raising Crash Risk

NHTSA campaign 15V455, reported July 22, 2015, 346 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2016 boat trailers, built between March 23, 2015 and June 24, 2015, were equipped with wheels fitted with load range "C" tires instead of the load range "D" tires specified for these trailers. The trailers therefore do not meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 110 on tire selection and load carrying capacity.

If the trailer is loaded beyond the tire's rating, the tire may fail suddenly, which increases the risk of a crash.

The repair is free. Dealers will replace the affected wheels with wheels carrying the correct load range "D" tires. Owners will be notified by the manufacturer, Tracker Marine, or you can contact Tracker customer service at 1-417-873-4555 and reference recall TS-0031. You can also check your trailer's VIN for open recalls.

Problem
Tracker Marine L.L.C. (Tracker) is recalling certain model year 2016 Trailstar Tahoe boat trailers, models 400, 450, 500, and 550, manufactured March 23, 2015, to June 24, 2015. The affected trailers were built with wheels that have load range "C" tires installed, instead of load range "D" tires as specified. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 110, "Tire Selection and Rims and Motor Home/Recreation Vehicle Trailer Load Carrying Capacity Information for Motor Vehicles with a GVWR of 4,536 kilograms (10,000 pounds) or less."
Risk
If the trailer exceeds the load rating on the tire, the tire may suddenly fail, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy
Tracker will notify owners, and dealers will replace the wheels that have load range "C" tires for wheels with the correct load range "D" tires, free of charge. Owners may contact Tracker customer service at 1-417-873-4555. Tracker's number for this recall is TS-0031.
