Oshkosh S-Series Recall 15V412: Torque Converter Bolts May Loosen and Shear, Causing Power Loss

NHTSA campaign 15V412, reported June 30, 2015, 24 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2015 front discharge concrete mixer trucks built between February 10 and March 20, 2015 may have Allison transmissions remanufactured by Valley Truck Parts. A thick layer of paint on the torque converter mounting surface can soften during operation, which may allow the mounting bolts to loosen.

If the bolts loosen, they may shear, causing a sudden loss of drive power and increasing the risk of a crash. Owners should stop relying on the vehicle's drive power if it behaves abnormally and contact Oshkosh before operating it further if they are unsure of their vehicle's status.

The remedy is free. Valley Truck Parts will remove the paint from the mating surface of the torque converter and replace the bolts at no charge. Owners can contact Oshkosh customer service at 1-888-686-7278, and should check their VIN for open recalls.
