Ford Escape Recall 15V406: Dashboard Warnings May Fail, Hiding Low Tire or Airbag Alerts

NHTSA campaign 15V406, reported June 24, 2015, 184,519 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

The instrument panel cluster can stop working because of a software incompatibility. When this happens, the multifunction display may stay blank, and the warning chimes, messages and warning lights may not function. The vehicle also does not meet federal display requirements.

If the cluster is inoperative, the driver may not be warned of safety-related problems such as low tire pressure or a disabled airbag. Without those warnings, the risk of injury or a crash increases.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will update the instrument panel software free of charge. Owners can contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 (Ford recall number 15C03), and should check their VIN for open recalls.
