Volkswagen Passat Recall 15V373: Loose Rear Brake Line Can Leak Fluid and Reduce Stopping Power

NHTSA campaign 15V373, reported June 15, 2015, 62 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

A brake line near the left rear wheel on certain vehicles built May 18 to May 21, 2015 may not have been properly tightened at the factory. Over time, this can allow brake fluid to leak, which reduces braking performance and makes the vehicle take longer to stop.

Reduced braking ability increases the risk of a crash. If your vehicle is within the affected build dates, do not ignore warning signs such as a soft or sinking brake pedal, a brake warning light, or a noticeable drop in fluid in the reservoir, and have it inspected promptly.

Volkswagen has notified owners, and authorized dealers will tighten the brake line fitting free of charge. Contact Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-822-8987, referencing recall 47M3, and check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for any open recalls.
