What this recall means for you
Some 2011 Sportage vehicles built between March 7 and June 8, 2011 may have a brake light switch that intermittently fails. When the switch is not working, the brake lights will not come on when you press the pedal, so drivers behind you may not know you are slowing or stopping. This raises the risk of a rear-end crash.
Kia will notify affected owners and dealers will replace the brake light switch at no cost to you. If you own this vehicle, contact Kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542 (Kia recall number SC121) and check your VIN for open recalls. Until the repair is done, watch your brake lights when you can, such as by checking reflections in windows or asking someone to confirm they work.
