International Lonestar Recall 15V329: Exhaust Stack Can Break Loose and Fall onto Road

NHTSA campaign 15V329, reported May 29, 2015, 102 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

The exhaust stack tail pipe may not have enough support. Over time, the weight of the upper pipe and normal vehicle vibration can crack the weld joint between the inlet pipe and the flared end of the stack tail pipe. The pipe can then partially or fully separate from the vertical exhaust pipe.

If the stack tail pipe separates, it can fall into the roadway and possibly strike another vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash. Owners should have the recall repair done as soon as possible.

The remedy is free at an authorized dealer, which will replace the stack tail pipe with a one-piece stack tail pipe. Owners can contact Navistar customer service at 1-800-448-7825 (recall number 15511), and should check their VIN for open recalls.
