New Flyer XN35 Recall 15V292: Engine Oil Leak Can Cause Bus Fire

NHTSA campaign 15V292, reported May 18, 2015, 2,956 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Excessive crankcase pressure in certain Cummins Westport ISL G engines can cause the 90-degree elbow of the vent tube assembly to detach from the crankcase ventilation breather. When this happens, engine oil may contact hot surfaces, which increases the risk of a vehicle fire.

Cummins will notify owners on behalf of the manufacturer. Authorized Cummins service centers will secure the ends of the 90-degree elbow and reprogram the engine control module with software that adjusts engine output under misfire conditions to limit crankcase pressure. These repairs are free of charge. Owners can also contact New Flyer customer service at (204) 224-6706, and should check their vehicle identification number for open recalls.
