- Component
- SUSPENSION:REAR:SHOCK ABSORBER
- Problem
- Ducati North America (Ducati) is recalling certain model year 2014 1199 Panigale S version, 1199 Superleggera and 1199 Panigale R version motorcycles. The affected motorcycles may have been built with an improperly manufactured rear shock absorber. The nut on the damper rod for these shock absorbers may loosen, resulting in a loss of damping and the possible disassembling of the shock.
- Risk
- If the damper rod nut loosens, shock absorber performance would be affected, possibly causing a loss of vehicle control and increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy
- Ducati will notify owners, and dealers will either replace the rear shock assembly or send the shock to the supplier's repair center to be remedied, free of charge. The recall began on June 29, 2015. Owners may contact Ducati customer service at 1-800-231-6696. Ducati's number for this recall is RCL-15-002.
- Notes
- Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
What this recall means for you
Some motorcycles were built with a rear shock absorber that may not be manufactured correctly. The nut on the damper rod can loosen over time, which reduces the shock's damping and can, in the worst case, cause the shock to come apart.
If the damper rod nut loosens, the rear suspension may not perform properly. This can cause a loss of vehicle control and raises the risk of a crash.
If you own an affected model year 2014 Ducati 1199 Panigale S, 1199 Superleggera or 1199 Panigale R, contact Ducati customer service at 1-800-231-6696. Dealers will replace the rear shock assembly or send the shock to the supplier's repair center, free of charge. Also check your VIN for any open recalls.
