Coachmen Freelander Recall 15V237: Incorrect weight label may lead to overloading and crash risk

What this recall means for you

Certain 2015-2016 Coachmen Freelander and 2015 Coachmen Leprechaun vehicles, built on a Ford 158-inch wheelbase chassis with a 5.4L V-8 engine, may have a Federal Certification label that lists the wrong gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR), gross axle weight rating (GAWR) and cargo carrying capacity. The vehicles do not meet federal certification labeling requirements.

Because the label shows incorrect limits, an owner may load the vehicle beyond its true capacity without realizing it, which increases the risk of a crash.

Forest River will notify owners and provide replacement labels with the corrected information at no cost. Contact Coachmen customer service at 1-800-453-6064 and reference recall number 51-04172015-0031. You can also check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for open recalls.

Problem
Forest River, Inc. (Forest River) is recalling certain model year 2015-2016 Coachmen Freelander vehicles manufactured February 14, 2014, to April 1, 2015, and 2015 Coachmen Leprechaun vehicles manufactured on June 10, 2014. The affected vehicles, manufactured on a Ford 158" wheelbase chassis with a 5.4L V-8 engine, may have a Federal Certification label that lists an incorrect gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR), gross axle weight rating (GAWR) and wrong cargo carrying capacity information. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of 49 CFR Part 567, "Certification."
Risk
With incorrect GVWR, GAWR, and cargo carrying capacity information, the operator may overload the trailer, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy
Forest River will notify owners and will provide replacement labels with the corrected information, free of charge. The recall began on April 17, 2015. Owners may contact Coachmen customer service at 1-800-453-6064. Forest River's number for this recall is 51-04172015-0031.
