Yamaha YZFR1M Recall 15V221: Rear Shock Nut Can Loosen, Causing Loss of Control

NHTSA campaign 15V221, reported April 14, 2015, 350 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

A rear shock absorber on certain motorcycles may have been built improperly. The nut on the damper rod can loosen over time, which reduces the shock's damping and could allow the shock to come apart.

If the damper rod nut loosens, the shock absorber may not perform properly, which could cause a loss of vehicle control and raise the risk of a crash.

Dealers will inspect the motorcycle and replace any affected rear shock absorber free of charge. Yamaha will notify owners, or you can contact Yamaha customer service at 1-800-962-7926. Check your VIN for open recalls to confirm whether your vehicle is included.
