Thor Motor Coach Citation Recall 15V191: Doors May Be Hard to Open After a Front Crash

What this recall means for you

Some 2015 motorhomes built on a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter chassis may have an abutting wedge installed incorrectly. This wedge is attached to the door jamb to make the door easier to open after a severe frontal crash.

If a vehicle with an incorrectly installed wedge is involved in a severe frontal crash, more force may be needed to open the doors, which increases the risk of injury to occupants who need to get out. Mercedes-Benz will notify owners on behalf of Thor Motor Coach, and the repair is free of charge.

An authorized dealer will inspect the abutting wedge and correct its installation if needed. Owners can contact Thor customer service at 1-877-500-1020 or Sprinter Customer Service at 1-877-762-8267, and should check their VIN for any open recalls.

Problem
Thor Motor Coach (Thor) is recalling certain model year 2015 Siesta and Citation motorhomes manufactured from September 26, 2014, through February 27, 2015, and built on a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter chassis. In the affected vehicles, the abutting wedge, a component attached to the door jamb to make opening the door easier after a severe frontal crash, may have been installed incorrectly.
Risk
If a vehicle that has an incorrectly installed abutting wedge is involved in a severe frontal crash, a greater force may be necessary to open the doors, increasing the risk of injury.
Remedy
Mercedes-Benz will notify owners on behalf of Thor, and dealers will inspect and, if necessary, correct the installation of the abutting wedge, free of charge. The recall began on March 23, 2015.
