Airstream Interstate Recall 15V190: Doors May Be Hard to Open After a Front Crash

NHTSA campaign 15V190, reported March 31, 2015, 180 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Some 2015 Airstream Interstate motorhomes built on a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter chassis may have a part called an abutting wedge installed incorrectly. The wedge is attached to the door jamb to make the door easier to open after a severe frontal crash.

If a vehicle with an incorrectly installed wedge is involved in a severe frontal crash, more force may be needed to open the doors. That could delay escape or rescue and increase the risk of injury.

The repair is free. Mercedes-Benz notified owners on behalf of Airstream on April 10, 2015. Dealers will inspect the wedge installation and correct it if needed. You can contact Airstream customer service at 1-937-596-6111 or Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Customer Service at 1-877-762-8267. Check your VIN for open recalls to confirm whether your vehicle is affected.
