Pierce Impel Recall 15V174: Rear Spring Block May Crack, Risking Crash

NHTSA campaign 15V174, reported March 25, 2015, 8 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2015 Pierce Enforcer, Impel, Saber, and Velocity vehicles built between December 4, 2014 and March 23, 2015 have a rear axle cast iron leaf spring spacer block that may crack and fracture. A fractured block can break into pieces that become a road hazard, and if the entire block separates, the rear axle alignment may suddenly shift. Either condition could increase the risk of a crash.

Pierce will notify affected owners. Dealers will replace the cast iron spring spacer block with a machined steel spring spacer block at no cost to you. The recall began March 23, 2015.

To check whether your vehicle is included, look up your VIN for open recalls, and contact Pierce customer service at 1-888-974-3723 with any questions.
