Chevrolet Malibu Recall 15V164: Sunroof May Close Unexpectedly, Risking Pinch Injuries

NHTSA campaign 15V164, reported March 23, 2015, 87,063 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

The sunroof control switch (slide or tilt) on these Chevrolet Malibus may not be recessed enough to prevent it from being pressed by accident. If the switch is inadvertently pressed, the sunroof can close on its own unexpectedly, creating a risk of a pinch injury. The affected vehicles also do not meet the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 118 for power-operated window, partition, and roof panel systems.

GM will notify owners, and authorized dealers will update the Body Control Module software to remove the auto-close feature for certain switch positions. The repair is free of charge. Owners can contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 and reference GM recall number 15176. You can also check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for open recalls.
