Jerr-Dan Standard Duty Wrecker Recall 15V161: Tow Truck Lift Arm May Drop, Risking Towed Vehicle Crash

NHTSA campaign 15V161, reported March 20, 2015, 50 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

On certain 2010 Jerr-Dan Standard Duty wreckers built between August 3 and September 30, 2010, the underlift boom tilt cylinder may drift downward while a vehicle is being towed. If this happens, the towed vehicle can contact the road surface, which raises the risk of a crash.

Jerr-Dan will notify affected owners, and authorized dealers will replace the underlift tilt circuit counterbalance valve at no cost to the owner. This recall expands an earlier recall, 14V-248. To check whether your wrecker is covered, contact Jerr-Dan customer service at 1-800-926-9666, and check your VIN for open recalls.
