Nissan Altima Recall 15V116: Hood may open while driving, risking a crash

NHTSA campaign 15V116, reported February 27, 2015, 625,400 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

The secondary hood latch can bind and stay in the unlatched position even when the hood looks closed. If the primary latch releases and the secondary latch is not engaged, the hood could fly open while you are driving, which increases the risk of a crash.

The repair is free at an authorized Nissan dealer. The dealer will adjust the bend angle of the hood actuation lever to remove interference with the hood inner panel, and will clean and lubricate the latch joint as needed. If significant corrosion is found, the latch assembly will be replaced. Nissan will notify affected owners, and you can also contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-647-7261.

Check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for open recalls, and make sure your hood latches fully before every drive. This recall expands on recall 14V-565.
