Airstream International Recall 15V086: LP tanks can detach from trailer, posing crash and fire risk

NHTSA campaign 15V086, reported February 11, 2015, 3,345 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain Airstream travel trailers from model years 2014 and 2015, built between August 1, 2013 and February 4, 2015, have a defect in the screws that secure the tray holding the liquid propane (LP) tanks. The screws may fail, allowing the LP tanks to fall from the trailer.

If the screws holding the tank fail, the tank can separate from the trailer and become a loose object that can strike another vehicle on the road. The condition also raises the risk of a fire.

Airstream will notify owners, and authorized dealers will install new attaching screws to secure the LP tank tray at no charge. Owners can contact Airstream customer service at 1-937-596-6111, and should check their vehicle identification number (VIN) for any open recalls.
