- Problem
- KTM North America, Inc. (KTM) is recalling certain model year 2015 Husqvarna FE 350 S and FE 501 S motorcycles manufactured from July 23, 2014, to October 17, 2014. In the forks of the affected motorcycles, the threaded connection between the piston rod and fork cap may not have been sufficiently tightened and therefore the piston rod could become stuck within the fork leg.
- Risk
- If the piston rod detaches within the fork leg, the front suspension could malfunction and destabilize the motorcycle, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy
- KTM will notify owners, and Husqvarna motorcycle dealers will inspect the torque of the fork piston rod to the fork cap, correcting it as necessary, free of charge. The recall began January 21, 2015. Owners may contact KTM customer service at 1-888-985-6090. KTM's number for this recall is TB 1503. Note: This recall supersedes recall 14V-772 in its entirety.
- Notes
- Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
What this recall means for you
Some front fork assemblies may not have been tightened enough at the connection between the piston rod and the fork cap. Over time, the piston rod can become stuck inside the fork leg, and if it detaches, the front suspension may malfunction and destabilize the motorcycle.
A sudden suspension failure can cause the motorcycle to become unstable, which increases the risk of a crash. Owners should stop riding the affected motorcycle until the fork is checked.
The repair is free. Husqvarna motorcycle dealers will inspect the torque of the fork piston rod to the fork cap and correct it if needed. KTM will also notify owners directly. You can contact KTM customer service at 1-888-985-6090 (KTM recall TB 1503), and you should check your VIN for open recalls.
