MCI J4500 Recall 15V001: Brake hose can wear through, reducing braking on motor coaches

NHTSA campaign 15V001, reported January 5, 2015, 147 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

On certain 2013-2015 MCI J4500 motor coaches built between July 2013 and December 2014 (with ZF axles and independent front suspension), the steering axle brake hose may be routed or clamped so that it rubs against the front tire or the upper control arm. Over time this rubbing can wear a hole in the hose, causing air pressure to leak from the front brake chamber.

Losing air pressure in the front brake reduces braking performance and raises the risk of a crash. Owners should contact Motor Coach Industries customer service at 1-800-241-2947 to confirm their vehicle is covered. The remedy is still being developed, and MCI will notify owners when it is available; the repair is free at an authorized dealer. Check your vehicle identification number for open recalls in the meantime.

MCI will notify owners. The remedy for this recall is still under development. The recall began on March 2, 2015. Owners may contact MCI customer service at 1-800-241-2947.
